Cook Inlet Academy's Dual Credit Program
Cook Inlet Academy has joined with Colorado Christian University to offer “Dual Credit Courses” for our students. Dual credit courses are those courses giving students high school credit as well as college credit while in high school.

Here is the way the courses will work:
· Colorado Christian University has “hired” Gary Leiter to teach the following courses for them: English Composition, English Literature, College Algebra, College Intermediate Algebra

College Algebra and College Intermediate Algebra
College Algebra is offered each fall and Intermediate Algebra is offered in the spring.  Students can earn 3 college credits for the course.  Students can take the course for the first quarter and see if they feel they will be successful, then decide to continue or drop the course.
--If students drop the course, their grade will be deleted from their high school transcript and will not affect their gpa.  It will be as if they never took the course.
--If they choose to continue with the course, they can register with Colorado Christian University and earn the 3 college credits by paying the $200 registration fee directly to Colorado Christian University.  The deadline to register with Colorado Christian University is October 25 of each fall semester and March 6 of each spring semester.

English Composition and English Literature
English Composition is offered each even numbered fall (2018, 2020, etc).  Each fall semester, the course is offered as high school credit only.  At the close of the fall semester, Mr Leiter will evaluate the skills of each student and determine if he/she is ready to take English Comp for college level credit in the spring.
--If a student takes English Comp for college credit, they have until March 6 to register with Colorado Christian University.
--If a student takes English Comp for college credit and decides to drop back down to "high school credit only" before March 6, they keep their earned grade and move into the high school level English Comp course.
--At the end of the spring semester, students enrolled for college credit will receive 3 English credits at the college level as well as their earned high school credit (0.5 credits each semester).  If a student does not take the course as a college credit during the spring semester, they will earn high school credit only.

English Literature is offered each odd numbered fall (2019, 2021, etc.).  Each fall semester, the course is offered as high school credit only.  At the close of the fall semester, Mr Leiter will evaluate the skills of each student and determine if he/she is ready to take English Lit for college level credit in the spring.
--If a student takes English Lit for college credit, they have until March 6 to register with Colorado Christian University.
--If a student takes English Lit for college credit and decides to drop back down to "high school credit only" before March 6, they keep their earned grade and move into the high school level English Lit course.
--At the end of the spring semester, students enrolled for college credit will receive 3 English credits at the college level as well as their earned high school credit (0.5 credits each semester).  If a student does not take the course as a college credit during the spring semester, they will earn high school credit only.

NOTE:  College Algebra, English Composition, and English Literature are HONORS level courses.  When taken for college credit, students earn grades based on the 5.0 grading scale.  This means:
A = 5.0
B = 4.0
C = 3.0
No college credit is given for grades below a C.

On the CIA transcript, these courses will have the earned grade based on CIA's grading scale, but the gpa will be 1.0 point higher.  This means that if a student earns a "B" for the class, a "B" will appear as the grade on the CIA transcript, but a "4.0" will be averaged into their cummulative gpa (which is what schools and scholarship programs look at).  This can really make a tremendous difference on a student's final transcript.  For instance, a past student took several college classes while in high school and was able to get a $35,000 academic scholarship because of the higher gpa earned by taking the college classes.
