Outdoor Education and Survival Skills
This next section contains 14 chapters of a book I compiled years ago.
This book is volume II of an ongoing process of writing and rewriting. As I gain experience and read new information on backpacking, I will continue to update and change the book. The book was written from a need to have a textbook to follow when teaching a Summer Wilderness Program. It is in no way an exhaustive book dealing with backpacking. It is a small attempt to educate persons who hike or will hike on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska so their experiences are ones in which they will want to relive in their memories, not nightmares. I have taken the information on the following pages from many many sources including books, magazines, my own experiences, and other’s experiences whom I trust in the outdoors (there ain’t a whole heck of a lot of them either).

**Each one of you will have your own perspectives and ideas of how to enjoy/survive in the Alaskan Wilderness.  That is great.  Take your "ways" and compare them to mine.  Think through each and maybe come up with methods that best work for you.  I am in no way telling anyone that what are in these chapters are the best.  They are just the methods that work best for me.

After you complete the readings of each chapter (total pages is about 72), take the "Wilderness Test" and see how well you know the info discussed.

This section is near and dear to my heart since I have taught hundreds of students outdoor education classes on the Kenai Peninsula by actually taking them on multi-day backpacking trips into the Kenai Mountains.
There are two different sections to this unit.  The first section is from others' perspectives and consist of 24 videos, 30 minutes each.  The second section is from as Alaska Wilderness book I compiled many years ago.  I will explain each below.
The videos are accessed through an online site called "Wondrium". The cost for Wondrium is $45 per 3 month subscription to all of their videos (thousands of them).

**Note: Wondrium has videos that can supplement other elective courses like photography, art classes, etc. to log your 67.5 hours.

Here is the link to Wondrium: https://www.wondrium.com/outdoor-fundamentals-everything-you-need-to-know-to-stay-safe

Click on "Start Free Trial" and you will be taken to the registration page.

FYI...if you have already signed up for a Wondrium subscription, you have access to all videos for this unit and all other units.

The second section is my book divided into 14 chapters.  You will find the downloadable chapters by scrolling down this page.  The time spent reading the chapters and taking the final test (not for a grade, but to give you a chance to see what you know) is dependent on your reading spead.  Remember to log the time you spend with the reading.
